  Sportsmanship

Information for this section was orginally created by goodcleansports.org, author Helwind and concept by Chip Lee.  Goodclearnsports.org is no longer in existence but we hope to continue its mission of sportsmanship in hopes of creating a fun environment on and off that field that everyone can enjoy.

Our Mission
Good Codes for Sports
A Team Checklist
Parental Agreement

What follows is the core of any good parenting/coaching model. Kids can play hard, and they can want to win, AND they can want to “do the right thing” while they go for greatness. Adults in their lives are the models they emulate. How we act is what they will be.

And, really, is this for us adults, anyway? Put yourself in your kids’ shoes and see these sports through their eyes.

A Code to Play, Watch, and Coach By

·      Parents aren’t coaches. Let the coach do her/his job.
·      Coaches can coach, but it’s the kid who’s out there playing. Let ‘em play.
·      You didn’t win if you had to get there ugly.
·      Refs, like us, make mistakes. You ever tried ref’ing?
·      Only two times to talk with a ref:
o     When there’s a genuine safety issue.
o     When the planet’s future depends on it.
·      Reality check on sideline behavior: How do you want your team to look?
·      Positive sideline comments only.
* The kids are watching. What are they learning?
* Remember the words: Recreation, Game, Play, Fun.

*A Special Thanks Chip Lee for his contribution to lacrosse and sportsmanship everywhere.
