Congratulations for participating in Winterfest! Actively managing your future and seeking out opportunities with lacrosse is a proven path to success.
LaxUp is doing something similar, except for at-risk kids in the Denver area, and we’d love your help. We are building lacrosse through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Denver, as well as in other underserved segments of our community in order to help build the futures of great kids, and…we need EQUIPMENT!
Please bring any of your old or unused equipment to the Winterfest Event on Saturday and look for our box (or Ted or Seaver Baruch) to donate to this great cause!
Who knows, in the future you may see the next lacrosse star wearing your (or your kid’s) old gear – and know you have helped make a difference!
About the Program:
LaxUp is a new program committed to establishing competitive lacrosse in underserved Denver communities, while developing participants with expert guidance, character-building, and education. LaxUp will focus exclusively on at-risk portions of the Denver community, particularly in the African-American and Hispanic communities.
This spring, LaxUp will be launching the Boys & Girls Club’s first team, as well as working with rec centers, inner city sports groups, and key partners like Lacrosse Outreach, University of Denver, the Mammoth, the Outlaws, and local high schools to develop lacrosse in key communities.
In order to effectively grow the sport, we are leveraging connections inside and outside the lacrosse community in Denver for the following:
·New and used equipment collection
·Volunteers for coaching, tutoring, and mentoring
·Donations
Leaders of LaxUp (Karl Wimer, Erik Myrhen, George Moore) bring significant experience and success in developing lacrosse for at-risk kids in prior years with the CityLax lacrosse club. They also bring multiple years of work within DPS schools, deep experience in the non-profit sector, and coaching success at every level (from 1st Grade to the World Championships).
We have seen firsthand how lacrosse can open doors for at-risk kids, and are building a meaningful effort to leverage the sport even further while elevating elements of life that will lead to future success: schoolwork, family, diligence, focus, discipline, sportsmanship, and work ethic.
