WELCOME TO THE LACROSSE OUTREACH FOUNDATION
Organization History:
Founding and General Focus
The Lacrosse Outreach Foundation is a nonprofit organization, established in 1994 in Jefferson County, dedicated to providing quality programs and services geared towards getting and keeping young people involved in extracurricular activities, primarily boys and girls lacrosse. Ancillary activities have included funding extracurricular activities for disadvantaged children in the Second Wind Fund's teen suicide prevention program, spearheading a 9 month campaign to sanction high school lacrosse, developing field hockey in the true spirit of Title IX by creating opportunities for girls while avoiding cuts in our boys programs, and acting as a conduit and administrator for grantors looking to financially assist the needy among us.
Lacrosse Outreach's mission is to promote lacrosse
In hopes of including young people, particularly those at risk,
In positive, pro-social, life building activities.
Evolution of Lacrosse Outreach Foundation
The nonprofit started as a youth sports-based organization supporting primarily one club, Westside Lacrosse. As the organization evolved so did its "Outreach", as a result of the ongoing support of an actively involved passionate community. The organization seized the opportunity to reach beyond the youth involved with Westside, and expanded to create opportunities for youth across the state. Through a successful transformation a new name, Lacrosse Outreach Foundation, was adopted to represent the broadened outreach within the Colorado Youth Lacrosse community. To date LOF is known for:
• Supplying economically-struggling schools, sports program, clubs, and other youth serving organizations with sports equipment. • Offering afterschool programs at elementary schools throughout the Jefferson County and the Denver Metro Area. Financial Aid and Free Equipment Rental are available.
• Offering financial aid and scholarships for low-income high potential student-athletes to attend college. (Demonstrate a Financial Need)
o Cody Lewis is the 2010 recipient of $1000 Ted Sullivan Memorial Fund (TSMF) Scholarship to attend and play lacrosse for Essex Community College in MD.
•Facilitating numerous fundraising initiatives to generate income for volunteers to earn credit for their team or club toward training camps and team travel expenses. • Hosting the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree which has become the estimated 4th largest lacrosse tournament in the world. • Hosting WinterFest a college recruiting tournament and informative weekend for Colorado (and surrounding states) high school lacrosse stars. • Consistently and actively expanding the sport of lacrosse in Colorado, (and occasionally beyond) through facilitating free beginner lacrosse clinics within regular PE class at local public schools to both students and teachers. All equipment provided free of cost. • Spearheading campaigns to sanction boys lacrosse as a high school sport in the Jefferson County R-1 school district, Girls Lacrosse, and Girls Field Hockey. • Offering to any lacrosse organization a "Program Builders" initiative designed to generate financial aid for team fees, scholarships, and equipment costs. • Hosting specialized training camps, beginner clinics, and athletic development programs.
Current Programs:
Lacrosse Outreach Foundation programming is focused on creating engaging and positive opportunities for youth to become involved in healthy and meaningful activities. All programs and staff not only work to instruct the activity, but also to facilitate positive pro-social experiences and encourage life-skill development. Many of LOF's programs and outreach initiatives are outlined in the Organization History.
Current Programming Includes: • Clinics within public school Physical Education classes. • After-school enrichment programs throughout Jefferson County schools. • College Recruiting and Informative events for High School Lacrosse players.
o WinterFest for boys and The Jamboree for Girls.
• "Program Builders" Initiative, utilizing LOF equipment surplus, low-income teams and clubs can purchase necessary equipment at market price, and 50% of the purchase price, is allocated into a financial aid account for their club, school, or team.
o Example: Summit Preparatory School purchased 20 sets of equipment, two goals and nets, and a few other miscellaneous equipment items needed as a bare minimum to field a lacrosse team. The school wrote a check for $5000 to pay for the equipment. In return LOF, allocated $2500 of financial aid available for Summit Prep Lacrosse to utilize for team fees, team travel expenses, and other financial aid needs of low-income student athletes with a desire to play.
• LOF hosts a few community building events throughout the year, most notably the Annual Warrior-Brine Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree.
Special Circumstance "Outreach":
The Ted Sullivan Memorial Fund ("TSMF") was established in 2001 in loving memory of Ted Sullivan by his family and friends. Ted was a great lacrosse player and coach who sadly lost a life long struggle to depression, taking his own life at a tragically young age. Ted was happiest when playing lacrosse, was related to the Founders of the West Side Lacrosse Club, Inc. and, although not from Colorado, had been a volunteer and participant at some of West Side's activities. Over $50,000 has been raised in Ted's memory and has been directly used to fund camp scholarships throughout the state of Colorado for beginners attending the Hot Shots Camps, children in need of equipment who demonstrate a financial need, extracurricular activities for children enrolled in the Second Wind Fund's teen suicide prevention program in Jefferson County, loans to assist developing programs in their early stages in Jefferson County, the development of the first field hockey programs in Jefferson County and financial assistance ($15,000 in '04) to the needy in the Golden, CO area as well as funding many other events and activities designed to create life building experiences for young people.
Thank you for your interest and involvement in, Lacrosse Outreach Foundation. Our organization exists and is carried by the passion and dedication of an absolutely amazing Colorado Lacrosse Community
